Things I’m Loving Right Now….

A Short List of New Things To Try and Old Favorites To Revisit

The best lists are those filled with our go-to gems, but that have room left to add a few new finds as well. Whether it's a lovely little thing or a life saving service, "The Try Guide" spotlights some my own favorites, old & new. This town is filled with so many creative and interesting people, bravely trying new things....so don't stop exploring. Keep looking for those that are exceptional & spread the word! xx -e

  1. Suck It Sweets and Treats suck it LOCATION: Suck It Sweets and Treats 4361 1/2 Tunjunga Boulevard, Studio City I'm just saying...it's the gelato of popsicles! So good. Owner Kaileigh Brielle makes all these sucksickles by hand, using fresh and seasonal, farmers market ingredients, natural sweeteners and they're gluten free.  I was so excited about this place opening, that I took both of my kids and we picked about 680 flavors to try.  Among our favorites: Toasted Coconut, Mexican Hot Chocolate, Raspberry Hibiscus and Key Lime Pie, but you can't really go wrong.
  2. Giftly giftlyVISIT WEBSITEI know it's not shopping season quite yet but I'll remind you about this again, when it is.  Today, I'm just loving GIFTLY, for being the new answer to gifting locally and impulsively. I enjoy Barnes and Nobel...I do...but now you have another choice as well!  Giftly enables you to curate your gift-"card"-giving by opting for the indie boutiques and artisinal shops that you really love or that  know the recipient really loves...in any city.  For example, does your mom use handmade soaps from a tiny shop in her neighborhood?  Is there a specific vintage boutique that your best friend loves?  Would you like to introduce a special co-worker to a great, new cafe to get their morning latte and croissant?  As long as the spot is listed on Yelp, you can gift it...and you can set it up easily, online.  Here's how it works:  You choose the spot and amount on the Giftly site, your friend gets an email that you've personalized, with the great news that she has a Giftly.  When she gets to the spot suggested on the "card" (email), she taps the email and and the money you spent on her is quietly put onto her credit card or paypal account.  It's so easy, so custom, and so wonderfully local.  Plus, being able to gift small amounts allows you to send something special to anyone your thinking of, on just a regular old day. How sweet is that?!
  3. The Tipi with Andrea Bendewald andreaVISIT WEBSITE Everyone needs a place to reset.  One of my very special places to do that is with Andrea Bendewald, in her incredible Tee Pee.  Drea's been listed a couple times already and she was nice enough to do a "SpirituaLIST" of her own, for us as well.  I've been sent to her Tee Pee by friends and I've sent others who I knew would love it...I've gone alone and I've circled with friends.  No matter what the case, the experience is communal, rich and thought provoking.  You feel connected and centered again..... like magic.
  4. A Few Lovely Things At Mohawk General Store marie turnorVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: Mohawk General Store 4011 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles [Silverlake]I ran into Mohawk General Store to spend a few, free minutes and of course, found a bunch of great things.  In addition to the vintage furniture, paintings and pottery by partner, Amsterdam Modern, there are the graphic, bronze Pick Ring by Gabrielle Artigas, the Dinner Clutch Marie Turnor, and the line of environmentally respectful and classic, Cire Trudon Candles.  Particularly the ones with the smell of fresh linens and lily of the valley.  And of course, I can't pass up an opportunity to mention the small selection of Clare Vivier bags in those beautiful colors. For the full line, go up the street to Vivier and Bentley.
  5. The Fashion Illustrations of Cate Parr  cate parr3VISIT WEBSITE I absolutely love Catherine Parr.  Her dreamy, sexy and ethereal water colors, capture an essence...a moment....a feeling.  It's impossible to pick a favorite but you can browse her ETSY site and see what I mean.  If her style really speaks to you, the way it does me, contact her about a commission....which she'll do from her Silverlake Studio.  I dream of giving someone a Cate Parr fashion illustration of themselves or someone they love, as a gift.  That will happen.
