An "In-The-Know-Pro" Sources Chicago for The Best Online Finds & Neighborhood Faves

ELAINE SAYS: The Senior Kids Editor for one of my long-treasured resources, DAILY CANDY, Lindsay Gladstone is most definitely a "pro-in-the-know". Whether it be for work or for life with her two little ones, Lindsey's black book is constantly humming with fresh, new finds. As luck would have it, Lindsey happens to live in my home town and special place on the map, Chicago....and while yes, I'm biased, this is a city filled with creative and talented people doing interesting things. So, knowing that she's constantly sourcing the best of the best, who better to tell us about her own favorite Chicago-based ONLINE FINDS and NEIGHBORHOOD SECRETS, than Lindsey. PS: Full disclosure, I'm also about to head home myself so this chance to pick her brain was well timed....perk of the job, what can I say?!

SHOP LINDSEY'S ONLINE FINDS

  1. Winter Session Garrison Bag | $265 winter session garrison bagSHOPA local Chicago find, I love how this bag manages to make a statement [hello, color] and yet still be useful [goodbye, diaper bag]. It’s sturdy, dependable, and big enough to tote whatever I need for my two little girls.
  2. Sailor Oven Mitts | $24 sailor oven mitts SHOPIn any given 24-hour period it is likely that I will wear, use, or reference something with stripes. Unison, a Chicago-based textiles company, shares my love of clean design and straight lines. Their table linens and kitchen accessories are my latest obsession.
  3. Lindsey Berns, Designer lindsay bernsSHOPI  love everything about this collection from local Chicago designer Lindsey Berns. So many kids clothes don’t let little girls be little girls, but there’s nothing about these designs that rushes time. If anything, they remind me of how my mom dressed me when I was growing up.
  4. Dalla Nonna Calendar Charm | $700 dalla nonnaSHOPI had been wanting a necklace to wear in honor of my daughter Nora, but was resistant to the ubiquitous ”N” charm. It wasn’t long after she was born that a friend at a dinner party told me about her new business, Dalla Nonna. I love everything about their rose gold April necklace and plan to hand it down to Nora one day.
  5. Grass & Clovers Tees grass and cloversSHOPI consider this a local find because I went to elementary school with Sara Sandler-Greisberg in the suburbs of Chicago. Sara and her mom, Deborah Fell, hand appliqué all of their tees, hoodies, and accessories with new, vintage, and recycled fabrics in the shapes of ice cream cones, rainbows, and gumball machines. Irresistible.

  1. Avec avec chicagoDISCOVERThis is our go-to spot when the sitter can come early – Avec doesn’t take reservations, so we go before the crowds, sit at the bar, and take our time. Don’t leave without trying the bacon-wrapped dates.
  2. Big Star big star chicagoDISCOVERPart hipster haven, part foodie destination, I like it here because our kids actually sit still for an extended period of time  - or as long as the chips and guacamole last. Don’t leave without trying the queso fundido.
  3. The T-Shirt Deli Tshirt deliDISCOVERAs a former copywriter, nothing pleases me more than composing quick quips for the fronts of tee shirts. The finished product is packaged like a deli sandwich and tossed in a sack with a bag of chips. Yes, my mom/friend/sister went to Chicago and all she got me was this awesome t-shirt.
  4. P.45 p45 chicagoDISCOVERThis was the first place I shopped when I finally considered myself an adult. The store is the perfect mix of up and coming designers and old reliables. Their jewelry selection is incredibly enticing, so come ready to shop.
  5. Floriole floriole chicagoDISCOVERThis bakery had me at their mix of sweet and savory artisanal treats, but the sun drenched space and oversize farm table in the lofted dining room has made it my official home-away-from-the-home-office. Check the website to see if you can time a visit around one of their special dinners that features local food purveyors.
