Ariana Nakata: Production Designer

Designer Mom, Ariana Nakata, Makes Her Life in LA So Lovely

ELAINE SAYS: Ariana is that super-cool, mom with the easy/breezy, seemingly uncompromised lifestyle. How does she do that?! This talented designer and artistic person edits her footprint with ease. So of course, I had to ask her to author a list and share some of her go-to goodies.

1. LOCAL FAVE [LA]: Brunch At Little Doms VISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 2128 Hillhurst Avenue, Los Angeles [Los Feliz] I love weekend bunch with the fam at Little Dom’s...and being a mom of two, I’m always looking for places we love that are also good for the little ones. Little Doms is definitely a great solution! I love the old school Hollywood restaurant vibe of the interior booths and they have outdoor seating if it’s a nice day. Favorite dishes are their fresh strawberry focaccia (my daughter’s fave), oven roasted french toast soufflé’ and eggs fungi poached w/ roasted mushrooms, grilled bread and yummy fennel pollen hollandaise.
2. LOCAL FAVE [LA]: Dessert at Forage VISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 3823 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles [Silverlake] Forage is the Los Angeles version of my favorite eatery, Ottolenghi, in London. It serves up seasonal, savory and sweet dishes using many ingredients from local farmers. I’m usually a chocolate person but the super fluffy ricotta cheesecake at Forage is really amazing! Second favorite is the lavender pound cake.
3. ONLINE FIND: Tata Harper Organic Skin Products VISIT WEBSITE I love this line of organic skin products it feels amazing and smells great! I’ve been using the reparative moisturizer and body lotion and my skin feels really healthy. They sell it online or at Lost and Found, a great block of stores on Yucca St..
4. ONLINE FIND: I Heart Hoorsenbuhs Jewelry! VISIT WEBSITEMy favorite jewelry line. Run and designed by my friend, Robert Keith, they sell at Net-A-Porter Online, Barney’s New York nationally and have their showroom on Main St in Santa Monica.
5. ONLINE FIND: Simone LeBlanc Blog VISIT WEBSITE I love looking at this blog. Simone owns a design and lifestyle consultancy and has impeccable taste. Her blog is filled with great gift ideas, inspirational images and is right up my alley aesthetically.
6. LOCAL FAVE [LA]: Beverly Hills Juice Bar VISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 8382 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles [Mid City] Banana Manna Almond Shake w/ Mixed Greens juice and a shot of E3 Live always does the trick when I’m trying to avoid the morning coffee and pastry!
7. LOCAL FAVE [LA]: Take Home Deli Counter at Bottega Louie VISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 700 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles [Downtown] If I’m on the eastside and want to grab some really yummy gourmet take home goodies this is a great place to hit. The lasagna and meatloaf are really delicious for a take home dinner. There are also really great simple things like gourmet mustard’s, flavored salts, fresh pasta sauces and don’t even get me started on the patisserie..
8. ONLINE FIND: Kids Clothes at Eggy plus a couple other faves.... VISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: Eggy 8365 West 3rd Street, Los Angeles [Mid City] Being a mom and a designer I can’t really resist the occasional splurge on really cute kids clothes. Eggy on 3rd st has a really nice palate of children’s clothes including some great Japanese designers, liberty prints and cute shoes. They often have big sales as well so sign up on their email list! Also, check out Trico Field [West Hollywood]...again Japanese, amazing soft cotton, great neutral color palate with subtle prints and the occasional piece for you if you’re petite! And shhh....Jenni Kayne [Beverly Hills] is a great women’s clothing store but in the back they carry really special pieces for kids (nico nico line and makie)!
9. LOCAL FAVE: Music for Kids VISIT WEBSITE Both of my kids have taken music class with Musiic Galloway she’s amazing and if you can get a group of at least 6 mom’s and kids together you can host it at your house! She comes armed with an amazing voice, acoustic guitar, drums, various shakers/instruments and playlist and attitude. She rules, love her!
10. LOCAL FAVE: Coffee at the Laurel Canyon Country Store with Lilly LOCATION: 2108 Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Los Angeles [Laurel Canyon] My local Laurel Canyon coffee spot. It’s full of interesting people that either live in the canyon or are passing through. Lilly serves up a perfect latte and it’s a great place to catch up with the people and eat great pastries if that’s how it’s going down that week.
