A Fashionable Foodie Shares Her Current Faves

What do Helmut Lang, Campari, Tod's bags, Alsatian Riesling and Uni have in common? Heather Fogarty aka, "The Foodinista." This blogger loves to talk food and fashion...and since she is credentialed in both, I love to listen. Her blog is fun, her tone is "girl-friendly" and her list is full of great finds. 1. Give The Mostest To Your Hostess okVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION:  8303 West Third Street, Los Angeles [3rd St] + 1716 Sliverlake Boulevard, Los Angeles [silverlake] Looking to shop for that hostess with the mostest? OK Store is my go-to for chic gifts. You’ll find a clever edit of art books, Japanese wooden trivets, handmade ceramics in all price points, and many items are pre-wrapped so you can grab and go.
  2. A Lunch With Sizzle bimbimbap LOCATION: 3303 West 6th Street, Los Angeles [koreatown] One of my all-time favorite dishes is Korean bibimbap, a bowl of sizzling rice served with beef, seaweed and veggies and topped with a fried egg. At Seongbukdong, a café tucked away in a mini mall, grilled octopus stands in for the beef in this extra spicy version of the Korean classic.
  3. Shoe Guru shoesVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 9700 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills [BH] Nowhere in town is the action hotter than on a Friday afternoon in the women’s shoe salon at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills. Shoppers in the know—aka Lonnie’s Girls—head directly to Lonnie Bishop, whose preternatural memory for each customer’s shoe collection and tastes means he always knows just what a girl needs!
  4. Photo Finish jeffrey millstein photoVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 2766 South La Cienega Boulevard, Culver City [Culver City] I bought my first photograph here at the Paul Kopeiken Gallery, seven years ago when Robert Maxwell and I were shooting Paul for a fashion story.  I’ve been a loyal customer ever since. Paul has an uncanny eye for undiscovered talent as well as midcentury icons like Garry Winogrand and Lee Friendlander. [pictured: jeffrey millstein photograph]
  5. A Library Of Libations libaray bar VISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles [hollywood]Candy cap mushrooms, artichoke bitters and seasonal herbs are just a few of the ingredients that bartender Matthew Biancaniello uses in his drinks at the Library Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Tell him your favorite fruit or herb, and he’ll take it from there.
  6. Hair-apy neil georgeVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 9320 Civic Center Drive, Beverly Hills [BH] Nobody cuts bangs better than Alissa Tietgen at Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills—an A-lister spot favored by the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts and Kirsten Dunst. Alissa pays extra attention to how the cut will look when pulled back in a ponytail, which, for those of us rushing to get the kids out the door every morning, is a very good thing indeed.
  7. Wine on Vine louVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 724 Vine Street, Los Angeles [hollywood] Whether it’s a night out with the girls or a quiet dinner with my husband, Lou is favorite neighborhood wine bar with a great menu. Proprieter Lou Amdur seriously knows his wine and features the best by-the-glass list in town. If you’re into it, he may even pull up a chair and tell you about the latest rustic red from Campagna or an interesting Austrian white.
  8. Win the Loteria loteria hollywoodVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 6627 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles [hollywood]It’s not just because Chef and Mexico City native Jimmy Shaw is the bomb. The man also cooks the best Mexican food in the city, and that’s saying something. Like a killer shrimp taco with crema, avocado and spicy morita salsa, washed down with a jalapeño margarita that’s made with muddled jalapeños.
  9. Think Pink beverly hills hotelVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 9641 Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Hills [BH]If you need a reason to fall in love with The Pink Palace all over again, rent one of my all-time favorite movies, California Suite. It is every bit as relevant 31 years later, from driving to the Valley for the best sushi to capturing LA at its elegant if absurd best. If you need another reason, check out either Designing Woman with Gregory Peck and Lauren Bacall or Robert Evans’ The Kid Stays in the Picture for awesome scenes at the city’s best hotel pool. I used to go Monday nights for a drink and to listen to my former neighbor play piano in the Polo Lounge. More recently, it’s where I got my husband’s wedding band in the little Asprey shop tucked downstairs.
  10. Bowl'd Over bowlVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: 2301 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles My father took his dates to the Hollywood Bowl in the ’60s and really, is there anywhere more romantic? Grab a picnic and a bottle of wine, and head for a night of live music the Bowl. Fireworks may ensue.
