Domino…We Miss You So

My Top 10 Digital Shelter Mags, To Help Fill The Void

It was a dark day....and you all know what I mean. But since then, a new crop of online home and lifestyle magazines has sprouted. I'll never get over the loss but these destinations helps to cushion the blow.

  1. Lonny lonny 2VISIT WEBSITE Most everyone is already familiar with the online decorating magazine started by former Domino folks, Michelle Adams and Patrick Cline, but no list is complete without it.  Lonny was first to market and is still the giant in the space, best replicating the tone and shop-ability of Domino.  Of course, nothing will replace the paper version for me, but this is a great product and probably as close as we’ll get to our beloved original! Plus, clicking through to shop is an upside that the magazine couldn't deliver. The blog is a fun romp as well.
  2. High Gloss high gloss 2VISIT WEBSITE Now in it’s 3rd issue, High Gloss is a pack leader and well-named for it’s glossy and slick execution.  This mag dips into fashion and travel as well, but the spotlight is still largely on beautiful interiors of interesting people known in the “style” space. Definitely a fun flip. And don’t miss the July|Aug Issue entitled, “LA Story” !!!
  3. Rue rue 2VISIT WEBSITE Rue is a slick and hefty Decor and Lifestyle Magazine by Crystal Gentilello and Anne Sage, and one of my favorites.  It’s digestible, shop-able and personal, taking us into the spaces of interesting, recognizable people but still remaining down to earth.
  4. Covet Garden covet garden 2VISIT WEBSITE Turning 1 in September, this magazine describes itself as, "Inspirational, Not Aspirational"....and it’s true.  I love that the spaces are all real...no decorators, just real people with their own, personal design pov.  The editors further personalize the mag buy adding playlists, recipes, giving you a great feel for who the people are.  It includes some well-edited product ideas as well.
  5. Trad Home trad homeVISIT WEBSITE Reinvented by the folks at Lonny, Trad Home puts a fresh, modern spin on Traditional Home Magazine.  So if you’re a lover of Traditional Style, don’t expect it to be delivered the old fashioned way.  And if you’re a lover of Modern Style, you’ll be surprised at how much you’ll find.  I loved the video in the current issue, “Jonathan Adler vs. Charlotte Moss”.  It was a fun way to see these iconic figures from different ends of the spectrum, juxtaposed to illustrate how they overlap in their appreciation traditional design.
  6. House of Fifty house of fifty 2VISIT WEBSITE Still in it’s first issue, House of Fifty is a new online home mag and blog, full of ideas for inspired living.  They touch on fashion a bit but mostly, it’s about lovely living.
  7. Laura Day Living laura day 2VISIT WEBSITE Laura Day is an NYC designer by way of Arkansas, but you might remember her from TLC’s, “Trading Spaces."  She is eager to share info and resources and has a unique approach to presenting the material.  Once you get the hang of navigating it, this interiors web-zine actually becomes an enjoyable and usable format.
  8. Standard standard magazine 2VISIT WEBSITE Sustainable Designer, Kelly LaPlante, has created an eco-mag full of beautiful images and concepts for those into the green scene. Even her, “Wear The Room,” feature breaks down the decor into a look book full of eco-friendly clothing suggestions.  Kelly’s goal?  To foster the idea that “Green is a Standard, Not a Style”.
  9. Matchbook matchbook 2VISIT WEBSITE Matchbook Magazine calls itself , “Your Field Guide to a Charmed Life”.  While they dive into decor in a playful and upbeat way, they also cover fashion, travel and culter, making it a great, lifestyle resource.
  10. Sweet Paul sweet paul 2VISIT WEBSITE A slightly off-story here but definitely related, Sweet Paul Magazine is a spin-off of the successful blog by food and prop stylist, Paul Lowe.  His motto is, “Chasing The Sweet Things In Life,” and true to form, this mag is a foodie fantasy that also touches on crafts and lifestyle in a beautiful way.
