Celeb Primp Pro Shares Her Favorite Product List And More....
ELAINE SAYS: As I'm prepped for my "Red Carpet" facial in Jodi's beautifully British, Queen Bee Salon and Spa in the posh, Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles (there's another salon in Culver City), drifting comfortably between quiet, meditative moments, girl talk and my hopelessly addictive brain-picking, I realize that this control freak (meaning me) is letting go. I am in Jodi's able hands without a question. I honestly can't think of that many times....Blog-worthy. Anyway, I daydream about how I might possibly translate the effect of her magic and somehow make it accessible to you too, no matter where you live. Then it finally occurs to me (duh) that this bonafide beauty guru might just want to share some of her pro product secrets....If I asked nicely. Which I do. Will she be able to edit the vast beauty universe for us? Can she possibly identify a single product or two in each category and tell us which attributes she thinks are truly important and why? Apparently, yes! She happily, jumps on board. Why? Because Jodi is just like that....a girl's girl, a cool chic, a crazy-talented lady. Not to mention the secret weapon to some very fabulous skin i.e.: Kelly Wearstler, Busy Phillips, Hilary Swank. So, here's the deal...Jodi is about results and she's a "no bs" kind of girl. She's made a deliberate choice to use very few lines and these are the products she really believes in. Hopefully, something here will be a match for you too. And if you really want to see her in action, come visit the salon, where she'll look deeply into your...ahem...pores.....and use these ingredients and more, to blend you a custom, skin-winning cocktail that will battle whatever threatens your pretty complexion. PS:: If you're visiting LA or live here, just "LIKE" The List Collective on Facebook and mention this post tp receive 20% off your first facial in Brentwood, courtesy of Jodi.

JODI SHAYS' SKIN CARE SECRET WEAPONS:
- CLEANSE I recommend a gentle "resting" cleanser (A refreshing cleanser that doesn't necessarily have any strong active ingredients) purely because if you are outside and in the sun a lot, you do not want to be susceptible to the suns harmful rays. So, for daytime I use something very mild, if anything at all! Two of my favorites: SANITAS MOISTURIZING CLEANSER with Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Silk Amino Acids OR EPICUREN'S MILK CLEANSER, which contains Willow Bark Water Lily Extract and Aloe Vera. Both are able to throughly cleanse the skin without stripping it too much. Nighttime, is when you should use more active ingredients such as such as salicylic, glycolic, malic, fruit acids - look for Alpha Hydroxys and Beta Hydroxys and pick a cleanser with an acid that suits your skin type. My choice is the LACTIC CLEANSER by Sanitas. The natural enzymes help clear away the pollution from living in a city.
- EXFOLIATE To stimulate new tissue growth and shed dead layers of skin, you need to exfoliate, not necessarily everyday, but at least 3 to 4 times a week depending on your skin type. My favorite is the SANITAS ROSE SCRUB. The rounded silica doesn't scratch or tear skin and leaves skin silky smooth, ready to tone and moisturize
- TONE I like how refreshing a toner can feel. Some people prefer a toner that has antibacterial/astringent quality and some just want to prepare the skin for moisturizer - by helping to restore the skins natural PH balance. I love EPICUREN'S PROTEIN MIST ENZYME ACTIVATED TONER - it contains apricot oil, lemon extract and aloe vera with enzymes that help to activate the other products I will apply
- MOISTURIZE Really this depends on your skin type and your age. In my 40s I am going to go for something stronger with vitamin C in it. Vitamin C is water soluble, and comes in several forms such as “Ascrobic Acid" "Ascorbyl Acid" and Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate.” Their benefits range from antioxidants, exfoliating, softening, moisturizing, healing, improving pigmentation and protecting from harmful UV radiation. The later described is the most potent and most premium. I use SANITAS TOPICAL C at night because it contains Vitamins A and E, which moisturize and soften. It's anti-aging and softening. During the day I love EPICUREN'S HYDRO-PLUS MOISTURIZER, which contains jojoba oil, panthenol and wheat germ oil - uber-hydrating qualities and is great for dry and dehydrated seasonal skin conditions.
- EYECREAM / SERUM I started using one when I turned 28 and now into my 40s I am glad I did. Eye creams and serums (serums are more potent and for aging skin) can work well for people with dark circles fine lines around the eyes and puffiness. I use a PEPTIDERM EYE CREAM, again from Sanitas. It is very rich and you only need small amount. Once I hit my 50s, I will switch to a "serum" which is much more concentrated.
- SUNSCREEN Sunscreen is essential in all climates, everyday. I like SANITAS SOLAR BLOCK, which contains non-toxic sun protection, that effectively blocks UVA, UVB and UVC rays. Some key ingredients are Melanin, Zinc Oxide, Beta Glucan Vits C and A, (let me know if you want more product ingredients list)
