A List Full of Fashionable, Fabulous and Accessibly Chic Finds from Lucky Mag's West Coast Editor

ELAINE SAYS: Lucky Magazine's West Coast Editor Marlien Rentmeester, personifies the vision of a magazine that [in my humble opinion] changed an industry. The fresh, friendly and down-to-earth attitude and the game-changing, "shoppers" pov. Why not share secrets? Of course, we should make everything easy to find! Marlien is even walking the walk outside the stylish walls of her Lucky office with her new, personal blog called LE CATCH, recently featured by The List Collective ...[CLICK HERE]. Le Catch uses Marlien's secret weapon -- the well-honed ability to blend runway and real way, to create affordable looks that even your fanciest friends would approve. In real life Marlien is warm, gracious, overflowing with style and has cornered the market on insider info. "Lucky" us....just like the magazine, she's also happy to share her know-how. This is one list of lifestyle finds that is most definitely magazine-worthy.

  1. Hostess Gifts and Mantel-Defining Knick Knacks: Chic Shop by Hilary Thomas chic shop hilary thomasVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: Chic Shop 11973 San Vicente Boulevard #101, Los Angeles [Brentwood]Housed in an unassuming 60-year-old building on San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood, Chic Shop is a small, new, off-the-radar shop teeming with incredibly stylish vintage home accessories and furnishings, all hand-picked by in-demand LA interior designer Hillary Thomas. Her signature style--a fusion of old school Palm Beach and whimsical modern--is reflected in the eclectic offerings, from pagoda-inspired birdcages and turquoise ceramic foo dogs to rich-looking malachite dishes. The prices are also refreshingly affordable (i.e., loads of things under $200)
  2. Crazy Good Cakes: Bountiful Bakery Bountiful BakeryVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: Bountiful Bakery 1037 Swarthmore Avenue, Pacific Palisades [Pacific Palisades]I discovered this one-woman bakery at the Farmer's Market in Pacific Palisades. She churns out the richest, most sumptuous, old-school looking double layer cakes. My favorite is the Coconut with Coconut Cream Frosting. Totally worth the calories.
  3. Secret Weapon for Entertaining: Brooke Larson, The Cook is Brooke the cook is brooke the cook is brooke 2VISIT WEBSITEShe is hands-down the best (and most under-the-radar) cook/caterer in town. Her food is rustic, mostly organic--and out-of-this-world delicious. Think Rustic Canyon meets Gjelina. And she's good at everything from veggies (roasted cauliflower and brussel sprouts) to grilled salmon to challah french toast. She does it all.
  4. City Style Find: Shareen Vintage shareen vintageVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: Shareen Vintage 1721 North Spring Street, Los Angeles [Downtown]Located in a nondescript sprawling warehouse downtown, this masterfully-edited vintage trove has it all, from sequin 80s party dresses to hippie floral maxi skirts. I love how the clothes are organized--mostly by era and spirit (party dresses, casual blouses, next season-looking pieces, etc.) And the prices and service can't be beat.
  5. 6. A Tasting Note: The Wine House the wine houseVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: The Wine House 2311 Cotner Avenue, Los Angeles [West LA]I am not a wine snob, but I relish good wine. This place makes stocking up on new and old favorites easy for me. It stocks a lot of well-known and obscure wines, and the staff is super knowledgeable. There's also a tasting room. Plus, it sells all the things that go so well with wine, like gourmet crackers and Brie (try the Brillat Saverin--a triple cream Brie. Heaven. It goes well medjool dates and champagne.)
  7. Treasure Hunters Exclusive: Summerland Antiquing summerland antiquesVISIT WEBSITE | LOCATION: Summerland  Antique Collective 2192 Ortega Hill Road, Summerland [South of Santa Barbara]Twenty-six dealers serve up an abundant and far-reaching assortment of art, furnishings, rugs and curios all under one roof.
