Jackie MacLeod & Sukey Novogratz: Co-Founders, The Well Daily

Health and Happiness Gurus Reveal Their Top Tips For Living "Well"

ELAINE SAYS: What greater way to kick-off the new year than with a list from two inspiring ladies like Sukey and Jackie. The yin to each others' yang, they are the team behind one of my new favorite newsletters and websites, THE WELL DAILY. Polished and pretty, with an aesthetic that suggests a magazine mantra, "The Well" pumps out tips for living, moving, cooking, primping and discovering consciously, healthily and with purpose. And with all of our minds currently steeped in the, "New Year, New You" mentality, there's no better time to explore these goodies. The site is also infused by the expertise of an accomplished and eclectic circle of "Friends" and "Expert Wellies," from prominent healthcare experts, yogis and philanthropists to less expected style pros like Christy Turlington Burns, Donna Karan and Paulette Cole, Creative Director of ABC Home. Most importantly, Sukey and Jackie are in love with what they do, having forged an organic path to "The Well," that is a story of friendship, discovery and two halves making a whole. Plus, the spirit of the site feels generous, supportive and it's full of great info. "Well" done.

  1. An Oil For Every Occasion: The Young Living Everyday Oil, Essential Oils Collection everyday oilsVISIT WEBSITEWe’re complete essential oil addicts, and Young Living’s oils are the very best. This starter kit contains everything you need to kick off a healthy year—lemon to wake you up, Purification and Thieves to cleanse your space, and lavender and Peace & Calming for when you need to relax. Sukey’s the Essential Oil Manager at The Well Daily HQ and spritzes our whole team with oils whenever we need a little inspiration.
  2. The Best Cleanse For Your Body: Dr. Alejandro Junger's Clean Program  imagesVISIT WEBSITEWe visited Dr. Junger in LA, over the summer and can verify that he truly lives the “clean” lifestyle. His home is so free of toxins that he can even eat his household cleaning products—and did, just to prove it to us! His Clean Program gives you the option of a Renew Cleanse or a Rebuild Cleanse, both 21 days. If you feel the need for a physical detox to refresh your system after the holidays, this is definitely it.
  3. The Best Cleanse For Your Spirit: Sharon Salzberg's Real Happiness: The Power Of Meditation sharon salzbergVISIT WEBSITEThere’s really no point to detoxing your body if you’re not going bring your mind along for the ride. We did Sharon Salzberg’s 28 day meditation program at the beginning of 2011 and it put us on track for a stellar year. Her approach is incredibly accessible, even if you’ve never even thought about meditating before. Plus, she’s one of the most generous, down-to-earth people we have the pleasure to call a friend.
  4. Our Tech Love: The POP Phone pop phoneVISIT WEBSITEOur gadget obsession of the year is the adorably retro POP Phone. It plugs into your cell phone and eliminates over 99% of the radiation that would otherwise be absorbed by your head—scary thought, right? We rarely make a call without our POP Phones anymore, and we got them for all our kids too. Our favorite color? Orange, of course.
  5. Yoga On The Go: The Pocket Yoga App pocket yoga VISIT WEBSITEWe travel a lot, and sometimes it’s difficult to keep up our yoga routines when we’re bouncing between cities. Luckily, there are lots of quality yoga apps out there that are perfect for busy yogis. We love Pocket Yoga, a cute cartoon yoga app that makes yoga-on-the-go a little more fun. It’s also a great way to learn the basic poses if you’re just getting into yoga!
  6. A Little Yoga, A Little Meditiation, A Whole Lot of Renewal: Try A Retreat retreatVISIT MENLA | VISIT OMEGA | VISIT ALAN FINGERGetting out of the daily routine, even if it’s just for a day or a few hours, can spark huge changes. [We should know—the idea for The Well Daily came to us while we were on a retreat]. In the NY area, we’re huge fans of the Yoga Shanti retreat at Menla Mountain with Colleen Saidman Yee and Rodney Yee or Omega Institute, where you can build your own retreat. And our destination dream is Alan Finger's annual retreat in Mexico. Actually, if Sukey had her way we'd be on retreats 24/7! She's reigned it in so we can bring you The Well Daily, but we still set aside some sacred space for renewal from time to time. If you can, clear your schedule for a weekend, grab a friend if you want, and find a retreat near you—you won’t regret it.
  7. Give A Little: Serve Where You're Passionate giveVISIT THE WELL'S "GIVE" PAGE  | VISIT JOYFUL HEART | VISIT GO RED FOR WOMENYoga and meditation are meant to take you beyond yourself—getting to the mat or cushion on the regular will bring you to a place of peace so that you can get out in the world and do some serious good. However you choose to serve [whether it’s with your time, your skills, or your money], find an organization that matters to you—let your passions guide your actions. Sukey’s cause: The Joyful Heart Foundation, which empowers survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. Jackie’s support goes to Go Red for Women, which fights heart disease in women.
  8. A Happiness Booster: Orange Wellies welliesVISIT WEBSITEEven rainy days can be awesome days, and fun-colored wellies remind us of that. We each have a pair of wellies in orange, the color of happiness, and we keep another pair around the office for inspiration while we’re creating our daily happy pills here at The Well Daily [Haven’t signed up yet?
